Short Walks from the Door
Back to Walking
We assume that if you are coming to stay in the Peak District the chances are you will want to spend at least some of our time out walking.
If you just want to do some short walks from the house then the following suggestions may get you started. You can make the walks as long or as short as you want by using the map in the cottage to find larger or shorter loops.

• For a little stroll you can easily get from the cottage down to Bugsworth Basin where you can feed the ducks, watch the boats come in and out and if you have a dog it can have a run about and a swim. It takes less than 5 minutes to get down to the basin.
• If you want to walk further you could set out along the towpath. There is a great little loop you can do from the cottage into Whaley Bridge along the towpath. Then back up over Bings and Silk Hill to the cottage (see the walks map in the cottage).
• Another easy walk is to go down to the basin and turn right along the Peak Forrest Tramway Track. A nice level walk and very shaded if it is a hot summers day. If you have a dog with you there is also access for them to have a paddle and drink in the river too.
• If you are happy to go uphill try going left out of the door along the lane to the first right hand bend and take the track up to your left. There are sometimes cows in the field so if you have a dog with you keep a look out. You can walk straight up to the top of the hill behind the cottage for great views.
• If you need a quick few minutes for a dog before bedtime you can always let them have a run round the village football pitch just up the lane but please be vigilant about scooping any poop!
