Longer Walks from the Door
Back to Walking
If you want to set out for a longer walk there are also plenty of options straight from the front door too depending on the sort of terrain you enjoy.

• You can easily get from the cottage into Chinley via the Tramway and then up onto Chinley Churn & Cracken Edge.
• Or you can go along the Tramway through Whitehough to Bridgeholme Green then up the lane to New Smithy and up onto the top of South Head. Stunning views.
• For more of a ramble than a hill walk you can go up onto Eccles Pike at the back of the cottage, down the other side to Combs (pronounced Coombs) Reservoir and on into Combs village in time for lunch at the Bee Hive and then take your time doing the reverse walk in the afternoon.
• Another favourite is to take the canal tow path into Whaley Bridge then up past Toddbrook Reservoir, right up through Slatersbank wood, follow the lane left to the sharp left bend and take the track straight ahead over the fields past Cliff Farm. At the end of the lane take a right and only a few yards up the track take another right back over the fields along the contour line. As you get to the brow of the hill there are the most amazing views. The path will take you left towards Whaley Lane. Left up the lane for a few hundred yards will get you to another track going right, down into Furness Vale where you can pick up the canal towpath and make your way back to Bugsworth Basin.
• For a track / road walk you can walk a stretch o f the Midshires Way along the canal towpath through Furness Vale and into New Mills. Turn right up the main road for just over 0.5k to Low Leighton then back over the hill via Laneside Road, Overhill Road (which is a track) and then back on to tarmac road right down to Dolly Lane and back into Buxworth.
We could go on but just have a look at the OS map in the cottage & you will see 100’s of possibilities.
