Walking in the Peak District
Back to Things to do
Walking
Walking is one of the main reasons many people visit the Peak District. Footpaths and tracks are plentiful, the views are stunning, country pubs provide great food and the scenery changes with the seasons.
Here is a short audio that will give you a feel for the walking in this area (in winter).
There are so many opportunities to explore the varied landscape. Whether you want a gentle stroll along the canal towpath, a more strenuous hike up the local hill to enjoy the great views or a full day out taking in the panorama from the top of Kinder Scout or Mam Tor the cottage is ideally located.
Finding Good Walks
If you are new to the Peak District or more specifically the High Peak we have put a map together in the cottage showing some of our favourite walking / running routes to get you started. Also in the cottage you will find a number of walking books to help you find good walking further afield.
If you want to plan ahead here are some short descriptions of a few walks. You should be able to identify the route if you have an Ordnance Survey map.
