Theatre and Concerts

If you fancy a night out at the theatre or concert in the Peak District you have a few options.

The Buxton Opera House

The nearest and easiest theatre and venue to get to from the cottage is Buxton Opera House. The Opera house, which is a fantastic example of an Edwardian theatre was completely refurbished in 2001 and now provides a magical theatre experience.

They provide a very varied year round programme including dance, comedy, children’s shows, drama, musical concerts, pantomime and opera as well as a lively Fringe Theatre.

It is possible to get a tour of the theatre if you fancy seeing behind the scenes. The Fundraising Friends of Buxton Opera House hold public coffee mornings at the Opera House between 10am and 12 noon and tours of the theatre at 11am (£2.50 per person), most Saturdays. Contact 01298 72050 or email them theatresecretary@boh.org.uk for details.

There is so much going on at the theatre that we can’t do it justice here. The best place to look is on their website:

Manchester Theatres

Being located fairly close to Manchester it is also possible to get to the many theatres in the city.

The most convenient way to get into the city is by train either from Chinley or Whaley Bridge Stations.

You can drive but the drive in can be horrible especially getting through Stockport so if the train times fit with the performance you want to see we would recommend you use the train.

There are quite a few theatres and concert venues in Manchester including:

  • Palace Theatre
  • Opera House
  • Lowry Theatre
  • MEN arena
  • The Apollo
  • Bridgewater Hall
  • Royal Exchange
  • Library Theatre
  • Contact Theatre
  • Green Room
  • Dance House
  • Stockport Plaza

The Manchester Theatres website provides performance and ticketing details for all of them so is a good place to start if you want to look for more information.
