The Boar Shooting Ground
Set in the hills overlooking Torside reservoir, just off the A628 Woodhead Pass, the Boar Shooting Ground is a scenic 13 mile drive from the cottage.
The ground is able to accommodate individuals or groups of all standards. Tuition is available and provision can be made for the supply of guns for novices, for those who do not have a shotgun licence or gun.
For more experienced participants, or those looking to practice specific disciplines, the following formats are available:
- English Sporting
- English Skeet
- Down The Line (DTL)
- Game Flush
The ground is open 7 days a week but it is recommended that you confirm availability of facilities prior to travelling to the site. For further information, bookings or advice, please contact the Boar Shooting Ground staff on 07724 193382 or visit the website at: www.boarclayshootingground.co.uk
The Grouse Shoot
Conveniently situated opposite the Grouse Public House, on the A625 between Chinley and Glossop, the shoot is a simple 10 minute drive from the cottage.
Offering a very scenic backdrop of rolling farmland, combined with a changing sporting layout, the Grouse provides a friendly and easily accessible shooting ground, with something to challenge most users.
Shooting occurs on a Sunday morning (0930 – 1200), except for April, May and June when the owners close to protect the breeding season of lapwings and curlews that also inhabit the hills.
Shooters can participate simply for fun, or enter the competitive rounds. Guns are available for hire if you don’t have access to your own. For further information, booking or advice, please contact the Grouse staff on 0161 3661997 / 07745 440015 or visit the website at: www.thegrouseshootingground.co.uk

Located South of Ashbourne, the ground is at least an hour from the cottage, but is well worth a visit if you are serious about competitive practice or improving your own basic skills.
The site also hosts a range of other leisure facilities including archery ranges, cross country driving courses and even opportunities to try your luck at sheep dog handling!
