Children in the Peak District

We know that the Peak District is a great place for bringing children on holiday and many families choose to base their Derbyshire holiday here. The countryside is a brilliant place for children to explore and we are more than happy to have them staying in the cottage.
Inside the house we have tried to provide as much as we can to make their stay here more enjoyable and also to minimise the amount of things parents have to pack!
In the House
We have made the following provisions for small people staying here so bringing children on holiday should require less packing!.
- Travel cot
- High chair
- Plastic plates, cups, bowls & cutlery
- Bathroom booster stool
- Toilet trainer seat
- Safety covers for sockets
- Safety gate at the top of the stairs
- Toy basket with a few toys and books
- Board games
- Children’s DVDs
- Small garden chair
- Large fireguard
Playing Out
Unfortunately our garden is not very child friendly as we designed it thinking it would be us living here! There are a few trip hazards for children so we would ask that you keep children under supervision at all times when out in the garden.
The field at the end of the garden is tempting as a play area but it is private farmland so we ask that children are not allowed to climb over into the field. There are often cows in the field and while they may be inquisitive we would also ask that children do not attempt to feed them.
Just a short way up the road is the village football pitch which is used by the local children as a playing field for running about.
In the summer you will also see some children playing cricket on the cricket pitch. Whilst the cricket club don’t encourage it you will still see well behaved older children using the pitch to practice. Out of season the pitch is kept locked to keep people off the grass. We would ask that you are respectful of the club grounds.
The closest children’s playground is only a few minutes’ walk away. If you walk over the foot bridge towards the pub car park and follow the signpost for the village just a short way up the road on the right you will see the Bugsworth Memorial club & just to the left of the club is a set of steps that leads down to the playground and another playing field.
Bugsworth Canal basin which is only a few hundred meters away is a great place for going for a short walk with children and feeding the ducks. In the summer and on bank holiday weekends there are often lots of boats in the basin and there is always something to see.
