A Peak District Holiday Cottage with a Difference

Deep Mid-Wicket – a home from home Peak District Holiday Cottage

Deep Mid-wicket on the face of it is just like many other Peak District holiday cottages. A character property, surrounded by beautiful scenery, a cosy interior, well appointed and comfortable.
However we believe this holiday cottage is just a bit different that other ones you might have stayed in. The difference is that this is our home.

When we bought the cottage in 2006 we never intended to have a Peak District holiday cottage. We bought it with the intention of renovating it and then enjoying ourselves living in this lovely rural village location. We spent countless hours transforming it form a very tatty and dated old house into a clean, comfy, modern cottage. We have taken down virtually every wall and ceiling. We have replaced almost every fixture and fitting and turned it into a lovely place to live.

We moved in in 2008 and after all our efforts we never expected to move out so soon, but the offer of a job overseas proved irresistible and so it was with a slightly heavy heart in 2009 we moved out, leaving our High Peak cottage behind.

We love being here and we thought that other people might love it too as a Peak District holiday cottage.

Because we renovated this as our home there are things here that you may not find in many other holiday cottages of this size.

In the Cottage

For a start we have installed a lovely hand built cottage kitchen with new appliances. The kitchen is very well equipped with crockery, utensils and small gadgets from Denby Crockery and Onedia cutlery to a hand blender and those little forks for corn on the cob.
The sitting room comfortably seats five people and you will also find a flat screen TV with DVD player, Wifi Internet access and an MP3 docking station.

We make no apology for the fact that the furniture does not match. In fact it is a bit of an eclectic mix, things we have acquired over the years. Don’t worry if you have small children though as we have put all or our family heirlooms into storage! Everything that is in the house we are more than happy for you to use.
On the walls you will find a selection of pictures, photography & art work. These pieces have been done by us, family and friends or brought back from our travels.

Outside the Cottage

We have tried to make the outside as appealing and private as possible, which is quite difficult in a small terraced house.
Deep Mid-wicket Peak District holiday cottage - View from the back gardenThe garden is not very child friendly unfortunately, but it is a lovely outside space with two patio areas and deep cottage garden boarders. A great place to sit and read or even sunbathe in the summer. It’s south facing so gets the sun (when it shines!) all day long.
There is enough garden furniture for everyone and a BBQ to help you make the most of the sunny weather.
There is an external electricity supply so if you bring a laptop & want to use it outside you can. The Wifi gets a good strong signal out there.
There is also an outside tap and shower head for you to wash down any muddy dogs, walking boots or bikes. As well as a shed which can be used to store bikes or dry wet gear if you need to.

We are also very lucky in being located right next to the village cricket ground, and the village football pitch is only just up the lane. This means for anyone wanting to come and watch some very competitive village sport it is right on your doorstep. The cricket is especially sociable. We often take a glass of wine and go out and watch the game.
With open countryside and Bugsworth Canal Basin close by it means that there is plenty of safe open spaces for children to run around in and play.

What is now a Peak District holiday cottage was created as our home to live in, we hope that you find it a comfortable and relaxing place to live no matter how short or long your stay.
