Holiday Cottage History

Peak District Barren Clough Cottages Buxworth

Our cottage history goes back to the 1870′s when it was built as housing for workers from the Crist and Barren Clough quarries that were located just at the end of the lane. Not surprisingly the cottage (first on the left) is built from stone from the quarries which is an unusual pink colour.

In this picture the row of cottages can be seen in relation to the quarry. The cottages are at the top left of the picture (second block of buildings from the left).
The quarry is not here anymore, filled in when the A6 bypass was built in the 1980′s, but the cottages remain as a legacy of Buxworths industrial past.

I would love to find out more about our cottage history given the fact that we now realise there is a family connection to Buxworth.

Because of its age and its history the cottage has plenty of character and we have worked hard to replace some of the features that had been removed by previous occupants as well as adding in some modern luxuries.
